A see through egg

 

It's science fair time at Lily's school. I told Lily she needed to think of a science fair project and she was adament that she wasn't doing it. She had no desire because she might not win. I told her about my experiences with the science fair. That I entered in it, didn't win, but still had fun. That her Aunts had been in science fairs, and we enjoyed it. So we started brain-storming ideas for projects, and we got a few books from the library. Lily was facinated about the idea of making a see-through egg, but she wanted to do that just at home, not for her project. So here it is. It took three days of soaking it in white vinegar for all of the shell to be eaten away. If it where going to be a project I'd have had her soak it in different kinds of liquids to see the effects of several different things. But it's not, so we only did the one egg.

For her project she chose to experiment with popcorn. We haven't started it yet, but the plan is to get fifteen bags of popcorn, put five in the freezer, five in the fridge and leave five at room temperature. After twenty-four hours we will pop them all and see if the different temperature effect how well they popped.

I like this project because it is something Lily can do. It will give us plenty of popcorn to eat too!

The actual fair isn't until April. So she should be ready.

Parent Teacher Conference

Can I just start off saying that I love Lily's teacher? She is so wonderful. I love conferencing with her. We started this afternoon with me begging her to move with Lily to the second grade so she could keep her for next year too. I think it's only fair since she's only been teaching at this school for half of the school year.

Moving on... Lily is a smarty-pants! Hooray! It feels good to have someone else praising my child. I am just so proud. She told us that Lily has been really helpful in resolving conflicts in class. She helps other kids feel better when they're being picked on. I'm so proud of her!

Lily is also improving in math. At our last conference Lily was struggling, mostly with her confidence in math. She'd just call it "hard" and would not try very much. Something clicked and now she's not so afraid of it.

Lily is ahead of the game in reading. Her teacher Lily has hit a jump and is improving visibly every day!


The beginning of this school year was really rocky for us and Lily. Since we moved and changed schools in September. Then Lily was put into a class with a teacher who quit only three weeks later! The school was taken by surprise and had to hire a long-term substitute while they looked for and hired a new teacher. The new teacher wasn't able to start until November. But we love her. With all this turmoil you can see why Lily struggled for a while, but it seems she is back up to speed and will be more than ready for second grade.

Aww!

Uncle Lantz came for a visit. The girls just love their Uncle and couldn't wait for him to wake up to start playing with him. So here he is with toys and books that they gave him while he was still fast asleep.

Multiples of Eve

This could be a nightmare! A bazillion more three-year-old Eve's to try raise. This is a kelidioscope at our children's museum that we love. We've been several times and usually forget to bring our camera. This last time we finally remembered it, but then we were having so much fun we only took one picture!

Our Neighbor's Tree

I didn't do it. But I was impressed with the thoroughness of whoever did do it. It's mostly cleaned up now, but they need it to rain for the rest to come down.

We Had a Birthday!

Lily has seven candles in her cake now! We celebrated by having a few friends over and they played games. They were actually alot calmer than I was expecting. They were all of Lily's quiet friends. But it seems they all had fun.

Rollerblade (thanks to Grandma!)
Tying shoes
Making her own bed (she loves to add pillows and animals to make it pretty.)
Memorizing math facts
Her own hair

Our House Closed!

Hooray! Our old house is sold and passed onto the next owner. It took alot more time and fuss then I was prepared for. I'm grateful to have this stress over and we can move forward now. But don't ask me where forward is yet. We're still debating about where in this valley we want to live, and when we'll move, and how much of a mortgage to get, and how to finance it, and what kind of house to get, and, and, and....
